The Fair Trial Initiative launched its pro bono program in the spring of 2002. Since then, we have helped some of the nation's leading law firms become involved in capital litigation in Maryland and Virginia. The program provides law firm associates with the opportunity to work with experienced capital defenders and gain hands-on trial experience early in their careers. More importantly, the associates are able to bring talent and resources to indigent defendants facing the death penalty.
